Is that to much xr for him? Should he take regular aderall 5mg in the afternoon?
My husband began Adderall when he was 15 year old, for ADHD. He is now 33 and his use has turned into an addiction in which his life revolves around if he has Adderall or not. It is straining every relationship he has in his life. I would think really hard about how much this drug will help your child. At 8 years old, he is in the middle of his human development. His brain is creating pathways of thinking and function that will stay with him and shape who he is as an adult. My mother-in-law often expresses regret at starting him on the drug.
I would seriously look at other options to help your son's behavior in school. Focus and a process of studying can be learned. MOST kids just don't have the attention capacity that their teachers would like them to have. Think about a special behavior plan, one with breaks, a sticker chart, incentive for him to work hard to focus and complete work. These ADD and ADHD drugs do have lifelong implecations and have the potential to shape your child's personality, and ultimately what kind of person they will be as an adult. There's no easy answer, I just hope that your boy doesn't end up stuggling the way that my husband has in his adulthood. Good luck.
