I've taken oxycodone in the past for back pain. I don't recall every feeling overwhelmingly tired. I am currently taking hydrocodone for dental issues and I feel like my eyes are about to fall shut most of the time! The drive to/from work is very rough. I never felt this way with oxycodone, but it doesn't seem reasonable to me that it would make me less drowsy. I am thinking of asking for oxycodone on this basis but afraid the Doc with think it's BS. Any opinions?

Everyone respondes differently to medications whereas oxycodone is actually stronger than hydrocodone. I would definteley run it by your doc. no sence bringing trust issues into play over something like this And I am sure he would not want to jeapordize your driving when you have to struggle to stay awake. Good Luck I think he will be fine making the change unless he is really conservative in his prescribing. TAKE CARE AND FEEL BETTER.
elfrank. If you tell the doctor the hydrocodone is causing you drowsiness, it is doubtful he would then give you another narcotic in its place. Oxycodone and hydrocodone are the same drug. Also, most doctors would view your question as drug seeking behavior. Why not just take less of the hydrocodone? If you want oxy's because they work for you, then just tell him the truth. Good Luck, Metandme
I also found Hydrocodone/acetaminophen to hit a little harder initially than Oxycontin(time release), I have been on both for over a year now. I think Purdue botched the time release action on the Oxycontin, as sometimes I don't feel any relief at all after taking a 40mg. Yet, I always get relief after taking 30mg of Hydrocodone.
