My son has been addicted to oxycodone and says that the fentanly transdermal system has been prescibed by a doctor to help him with opioid withdrawal. Is this a usual form of helping someone come off of opioids?
Never heard of it myself. The only way it could even be done(and even this way you'd have to go through withdrawal) is say if were started on a 100mcg patch, which if your son lied & told the doctor he was on a lot more then he really is could kill him,but then drop to a 75mcg then 50 then 25,but there are no lower patches so he'd have to either stay on them or go through withdrawal which I've done with Duragesic (fentanly) & it was the worst of any opiate withdrawal I've gone through so just sounds like a bad idea to me. If he's injecting the O.C's then it might make a little sense since they are harder to inject, besides that it's the stranges way to detox I've ever heard & like I said potentially deadly. I'd do some more research & talk to your son & tell him his life might depend on him telling you what he told the doc. Good luck
