i am scared of this patch, and petrofied to withdrawl from it, i have a small son (2) and am a single mother. i cant afford to be not me if that makes sense. but i will be having surgery again may 17th... what can i do my dr says he wont prescribe and short acting pain reliever such as pills ... please help...
Hello darlene. I'm marla. Nice to meet u. That's actually a great question I think. I have Spinal Stenosis and my dr will no longer prescribe vicodin or percocet for me for pain. Too much tylenol for my liver mainly, he says. Sounds to me like Fentanyl will be much harder to withdrawal from too when the time comes! I've been taking Fentanyl 50 mcg patches changing them once every 72 hrs for 5 months now. By the 3rd day, I start experiencing withdrawal symptoms. I get very depressed feeling and my bones get all achy. I can tell I'm already physically dependent on Fentanyl and I don't like that feeling. I'm also getting steroid injections in my spine done which help for about 3 days. My insurance demands the injections in order to pay for the Pain Management Clinic. This is my decision to go with, sorta as a plan A, before having to go to Plan B, which would be back surgery. People have died from Fentanyl OD. Which is probably what you're talking about. If not taken EXACTLY as prescribed, Fentanyl IS dangerous. I also believe its addictive. As far as pain management for me right now, before going to the extreme of back surgery, I have chosen THIS option. I don't know what your circumstances are so all I can do is share my own experience. Please ask your dr some more questions. This is very important, so don't worry about bothering him! In fact, write some questions down b4 you call him or go in is what I suggest to you. I'm not a dr but I do know Fentanyl patches are NOTHING to mess around with! I'd rather u hear your questions answered from your dr than from someone on the internet who may think they know, but they really don't. I hope I've helped some just by sharing my own experience. I want the best for you, and ill pray for you. Marla.
