I can't seem to get below 30 mg without withdrawals and if I do have the willpower to do that a couple days, I end up binging the next couple days and take up to 100 mg. I thought maybe if I get on just 1 or 2 mg of suboxone to keep the withdrawals away and to keep me from taking the vicodin, that would help.
Can you speak to the Dr. who prescribes the hydrocodone for you? You should be a good candidate for suboxone, however there is a process before you start the suboxone where you have to have the hydrocodone out of your system and it can be uncomfortable, but necessary. Try to find a Dr. who is an addiction specialist, or at least a Dr. who deals with pain management so you can start the suboxone as comfortably as possible. Good luck and you're taking positive steps in ending your dependence on vicodin.
You are a good candidate for suboxone. Years ago I took up to 20 Lortabs a day and THOUGHT I was doing the right thing by getting on Methadone for my pain pill addiction(HUGE mistake)... at least for me it was.If you are serious and want to be slave free from hydrocodone then suboxone is the way to go. Some people might say "Well isn't that just trading one drug for another?" and to that i say NO. I have done a lot of research and opiate addicts have a far more relapse rate than other addicts such as cocaine addicts because long term opiate use robs our brain of dopamine, another reason is that we have a very hard time getting past the withdrawls. If I were you I'd find a good Addictionologist (if you have any where you live) and get started on suboxone.Like I said I took 20 hydro pills a day for about 3yrs. then I was on 100mgs.
of methadone for 10yrs.and after 23 days of quitting that cold turkey(pure hell) I have found what works for me and that is suboxone and therapy with my doc. I only take 4mgs. a day of suboxone and thats all I need. The only regret I have is not knowing about this treatment sooner. Good luck in your journey!
No honey, suboxone is 20 times stronger than morphine and morphine is 50 times stronger than vicodin,so... 8milligrams of bup would be like 8000 milligrams of vicodin, your not that far along yet, which is a good thing, just sit back with a xannex and some tramadol, for a week or so and it will all be overwith, methadone and suboxone is for junkies that shoot 2 to 3 grams of Heroine every day for 20years,like me,dont touch suboxone... run as far away from it as you can honey.
I'm a big proponent of subox., but if you're young & have not gone through detox yet for the first time, I'd really find a support group, addiction counselor, 12 step mtgs. & try to get clean without going that route. I only say this because I was completely clean & sober for many years before the bipolar got me in a downward spiral with chronic relapsing and started on subox. I felt the best I've ever felt in those years & before going through the relapsing & yrs of subox. I do think its the answer for many of us going through this for over 20 yrs, but I just remember that feeling of being totally drug free (and I'm only on 1mg subox), and there's just nothing like it. It gets tougher & tougher to go thru detox and after subox., opiates never work again the same, if really needed. Plus, subox. does weird things to the body, as far as metabolism (many report the sweats, constipation, weight gain, etc).
Its just a road that may not need to be traveled yet, but that's your option & there are always several alternatives. Just giving you my opinion as one who's done it every which way but Sunday! Good luck!
