50mg of Metformin is perhaps not available the tabs are in strengths/doses of 500mg/850mg/1000mg, some of the side effects are:

Diarrhea -- occurring in up to 53.2 percent of people
Nausea or vomiting -- in up to 25.5 percent
Gas -- in up to 12.1 percent
Weakness -- in up to 9.2 percent
Indigestion -- in up to 7.1 percent
Abdominal discomfort (or stomach discomfort) -- in up to 6.4 percent
Headache -- in up to 5.7 percent.

Some of these possible metformin side effects include, but are not limited to:

Taste changes
Abnormal stools
Muscle pain
Lightheadedness or dizziness
Difficulty breathing
Nail problems
Increased sweating
Flu-like symptoms, such as fever, muscle pain, chills, and weakness
Flushing (a reddening of the skin, especially in the face)
Feelings of a forcefully or rapidly beating heart (heart palpitations).

Metformin is indicated for type 2 diabetes, hope this helps?

Sorry, you're correct, I meant to say 500mg. Is that still a high dosage? How soon does one start experiencing the side effects and does it wear off with time or does it linger on, or does one have bouts of the side effects whenever the pill is consumed?

Makosol, Metformin comes in 500mg is that what your on? It is usually the starting dose for Type 2 Diabetes most of the time, it is not a high dose though and some of the side effects are nausea, gas, bloating, vomiting, diarrhea, metallic taste in your mouth and of course hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). These may not be the only ones for you but are the main ones and also ones that I have experienced. I had to change my meds to another but not everyone reacts the same, alot of people have been helped by this drug for their diabetes so good luck and hope I helped some, marjorie zych
