My doctor prescribed me this for my hep C and my insurance (medicade)does not cover it , because my lab results do not show that I have advanced to severe fibrosis of the liver ! I do not understand why they wouldn't want to give this out to someone who needs it before it gets worst that to someone is is already worst and probably needs a transplant! My daddy died a year ago from this virus! He was cured from hep c but it was too late .the damage was already done .I'm 26 years old and trying to do the right thing! Thank yall in advance !
The new, way too expensive to afford, health system has put many of us in a similar situation. Many of my medications are priced way above what I can afford. One medication I'm on has a co-pay program through the drug manufacturer. I'd advise you try and find if there's something similar with your medication. I'm not sure you'll be able to find a different insurance on Medicaid that will have good prescription coverage. You may also check about cheaper alternatives.
Sorry to hear about your situation--it's a lot to deal with but at least your doing research and trying to find out what to do.
I know Silver Scripts covers it. Now that is a Medicare Part D plan so I don't know if you will find something similar in the ACA Marketplace or where you're getting insurance. Thank goodness that with Obamacare there are no preexisting conditions. Silver Scripts had Harvoni on their formulary (you can look before you buy, btw) and then removed it for 2017. I think the insurance companies are preferring to supply Zepatier because it is only about $54000 compared to Harvoni at $84000.
Its twelve weeks though instead of 8 weeks for Harvoni. There are also 12 week tx of Harvoni but less severe cases may only need 8 weeks.
I feel you BritBrat- I am 50 years old and just now learning to live and they hand me walking papers. I have severe damage (Cirrhosis about a fist full left) to my liver and as long as I have HepC I have 30% more chance of getting liver cancer. I am so very frustrated and I can certainly understand how you might be. Nip it in the bud before things go south. They dont care. Just make sure no Tylanol or any medications you can live without. Psych meds did me more harm than good Keep on them and take care.
