... withdrawals from abilify? I've been on it Weeks, it was prescribed it for depression, I don't even think risperdal is for depression! Can anyone thats been on the drug tell me if it helps? I am besidE myself with worry:^(
Hi, risperdal is used for a number of mental illness or dysfunction. Here is what they say.
What is Risperdal?
Risperdal is an antipsychotic medication. It is an "atypical antipsychotic". It works by changing the effects of chemicals in the brain.
Risperdal is used to treat schizophrenia and symptoms of bipolar disorder (manic depression). It is also used in autistic children to treat symptoms of irritability.
Risperdal may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide.
Since your insurance wants this one first it may be best to call your insurance company. They can explain what their criteria is for medications. You are correct that this is not a standard for treating depression. Although it can be used for treating bipolar disorder. I suggest you have a long talk with your psychiatrist to find out the purpose of this medication. It should not be prescribed by any other type of doctor who was not trained in this field.
I don't think you will have much of a problem coming off of the Abilify. This med stays in your system for about two weeks so it gradually leaves the body. When I went off of this med I was very concerned and all went ok. I would have stayed on it but it increased my anxiety. Good luck to you. Rodger
