... alternative, can anyone help me? I take other meds that keep me awake, have petit mal epilepsy and need to sleep
That's not a very helpful doctor at all! My husband recently was told by his pain management doctor that he would have to stop taking ambien (he took the generic Zolpidem too because if interactions with his pain medications). He was given samples Belsomra to try by his PD, and he has also taken Rozerem which worked for him but not as well as Ambien. As far as I know these medications do not have generic options yet so the copay was the problem with continuing to take them. Lunesta worked for me exactly the same way as Ambien but left a horrible taste in my mouth the next day that never went away until I stopped taking it. I've also seen a commercial recently for something called Restoril, but that's also new so no generic option yet. I like ambien because it's inexpensive and works. But these are the only options I can think of off hand. There are anti-anxiety medications like Seroqil (not sure if I spelled that right) that are also very good for sleep but are not a sleeping pill. It seems to me like your doctor should be going through all the best options that will work for YOU, since it's your insurance company that is not paying for ambien anymore. Have you tried calling your insurance and asking if you can get a pre-auth from your doctor to continue taking ambien? In many cases if your doctor does that per-authorization letter then your insurance company HAS to cover that medication. That is the case with Blue-Cross/Blue Shield. I hope this helps. Please let me know how this turns out for you, and I wish you luck. I know how much a lack of sleep can throw your body off.
Hi, sorry but i think that is a very unprofessional stance. However, i don't know if you are taking any other medications? I take Lyrica/Pregabalin for anxiety, which also helps me sleep. It was originally developed as an anti-epileptic drug, also called an anticonvulsant, so would be suitable for your condition. Another Medication i have used for sleep is Amitriptyline, which is a Tricyclic antidepressant used off label. Both medications can be used long term. A couple of suggestions?
