In the past 8 years I have taken almost every sleep aid I can think of. I had taken seroquil, trazadone, ativan, xanax, benadryl, the list goes on. The doctors kept switching things because nothing worked. 3 am and... nothing. This is affecting every part of my life and I know I am making myself sick. I dont have health insurance and this is aking me a little depressed that OTC sleep aids are my only hope. I'm desparate, I want to sleep so bad. But so far nothing is working. If and when I finally fall asleep it's painful for me to wake up and I'll get almost violent when someone tries to wake me up.
WHAT CAN I DO THAT WILL HELP???
Have you asked for promethazine? it's an antihistamine and anti-nausea drug, but with heavy sedating properties.
Other suggestions inclide Dalmane (flurazepam) or Restoril (temazepam). In general Ativan and Xanax aren't great for insomnia because they have such short half lives (meaning they only work for around 6 hours depending on the person). Klonopin (clonazepam) would be another med I'd suggest.
Have you tried Flexeril? It is a muscle relaxer, but also VERY sedating. Hope that helped a bit.
Amitriptyline ( the generic for Elavil) is also a medication they prescribe for sleep and I would recommend trying some self hypnosis cd's. Self hypnosis is merely extreme relaxation and really helped me when I had insomnia. I taught myself several of the techniques and can usually calm myself and get to sleep with them.I think the less sleep you get, the more anxious you are and that makes it hard to sleep. I am not speaking of you specifically, just insomnia in general. That is how it seemed when I was suffering from it.
well its hard to say what drug you should try at this point but if your not in therapy i would suggest it. can be a problem your not sure of. meditation will relax you and that can possibly help you sleep too. mmmm other than that heroine but i dont recomend that for anything.
p.s. people shouldnt wake you up if you havnt been able to sleep well. when your up for long amounts of time your body copes by having you sleep for much longer periods. a kid stayed up for 11 days and he slept for 2 days after that.
I have insomnia too, and my uncle who is a holistic type dr. said that usually insomnia is caused by a deficiency in calcium. At the time I hadn't slept for more than two hours a night for a few weeks, but I took 3 500 mg tablets and slept the whole night! It was such a relief! You can get calcium supplements at most health food stores, grocery stores or pharmacies. They aren't that expensive, and you don't need insurance. Some come with magnesium in them, which is nice because you need magnesium to absorb calcium. Also, Tums work until you get the actual calcium supplement since they are high calcium. You'd probably have to take about 10 though. I hope this helps!
Welcome to the world of sleepess nights I adid sall the meds aslwell. Then I went to a sleep apena clinic and found I had sleep apena , C-pap machine and drugs hello I was still waiting for the magic moment when the next thing I knew it was morning but unfourtunately nite went morning came and I still did not get any quality sleep.I started weining myself off the meds and quess what I now sleep. Sometimes when I have a hard time I take benedryl or ativan. Ativan is nit indicated for sleep but it does relax me and get to fall asleep. These are just things that I tried I hope they are helpful God Luck God Bless
have you ever tried elavil..yea i know i kinda laughed at my dr too because i was like you ..but man whithin a week i was sleepin my regular 8 hours i couldnt believe it i meen i would take freakin ambien and be up all night..oh and i heard you dont have insurance.well no worries its on the 4 dollar list at kroger and walmart..u should definately give it a try..i thought at that time nothing would work but this did.good luck i also would like too mention 3mg of melatonin.and if you wake up take another it wont hurt you
try something natural its called melatonin.it works quite well i was suprised
