... Does sonata work for anyone?
Afternoon Sleepless; Sadly this is pretty common with lot's of people and all you can do is talk to your doctor and see if you can try something else. After taking something that works for a while they kind of burn out and the doctor well have to find something in another class of meds to help you. And sometimes it takes several tries. Are you taking any other medications or over the counter medications or think of other things you can do like quiet relaxing music in your room.Turn off t.v. 1/2 hour prior to going to bed. HOW about things with caffeine in them coffee or coke if you use those you may have to stop drinking them earlier in the day. Wish I could be more help but this is a real problem with many of us and so upsetting. Feel free to post anytime and see if you get other answers,Ideas etc. We are not doctors but we have all at one time or other gone through what you are so we try to help with what has helped us. Have a great day Chuck1957
Sorry Sleepless; MY COMMENT LINE IS NOT WORKING AGAIN SO I HAD TO RESTART, but I just noticed you asked about Sonata yes this is a pretty good one we used to dispense lot's of that also it would be worth a try if your doctor well prescribes it. It is very hard for us that can't sleep regular because our bodies get used to having the sleeping medication in us and then we build up where they don't work I finally had to retrain myself to be able to sleep on my own and it is not easy and if I am lucky I well get 4 to 5 hours sleep.Again I wish you luck and hope something between you and the doctor well help you out soon. Hi, I am Bipolar and suffer from insomnia, I am 47 and have had insomnia for over 20 years, I have tried ... many meds and combos and still I only sleep what the chemicals I take last and have become quite tolerant to all type of sleeping pills (just a little feedback to let you know how you feel, and I empathize with you).
Zaleplon (sonata) is of the same drug family of Zolpidem (ambien):
Miscellaneous anxiolytics, sedatives and hypnotics
That is a handicap I see as you have taken zolpidem for a long time and you are used this drug class, that could be a problem, hopefully it will work (I am trying to be realistic).
Perhaps you should look into not homeopathic (once you have been on chemicals for some time these kind of remedies do not work in my opinion, for some people melatonin works, well for me is like candy, we all react uniquely to meds, perhaps you should use it as well, talk to your prescriber about it). I got off the subject a bit, I wanted to tell you that maybe you should try off-label meds, off-label means that if a medication is used for any other use (other than the approved uses), this is considered an "off-label" use, I say this because there are many great drugs used off-label to treat insomnia, and why did I mention I was Bipolar, the reason being is that there are a lot of meds I can take that will also treat my condition , apart from that I use anti-psychotics, at the moment I take 4 pills at night and only get 2 to 3 hrs. of sleep, and the rest is , well let me put it this way ... I have learnt to use insomia to my favour so next day come , and I have to work, I have done 90% of my work and I have the day to myself, I do not sleep more than 1 hr. during the day. There is a benzo, versed (midazolam) used as a sedative, hypnotic used in small procedures, there are , where I am 7.5 mg and 15 mg. my body is so used to chemicals (which is a shame) that I can take 4 15 mgs. and get in my car and drive for hours.
I wanted to share with you because there are not many people that suffer from this condition on this site.
Advice, try the sonata if it does not work ask your Dr. about Lyrica (pregabalin) used for Fibromyalgia great sedative , hypnotic.
Another point is work out but not in the evenings as you hyperventilate your orgabism and can´t sleep afterwards due to all the endorphins going wild, try to work out at least 3 times a week in the mornings no later than 3p.m.
Your diet , avoid all caffeine at all costs, it is hard but possible.
I could go on and on but you are probably bored to death if you got this far.
All the best.masso.-
