Does anyone else have inner ear problem as a result of RA not caused by the meds they're taking? I've had a minor problem for months, but never associated it with RA till I read an article about the possible connection. The article said not many RA docs are aware of this and I'm afraid if I mention this to my doc, he will think I'm imagining things! If I touch my right abdomen, it causes a "crinkling" sound in my right ear. Am I crazy?
Not sure if this will help your particular situation or not, but I'll share. My Mother is 87 with "severe advanced RA". The only thing she can take for pain is Demerol. She has tried many things in the past, with bad reactions. She has lost a lot of weight over the years. But the past 3 years (approx) she has also lost her hearing in both ears, and has a little hearing in one ear, which is almost gone. All along she has heard unexplained noises that range from knocks and bangs, to distant voices, actual singing with words clear enough to understand, conversations between people, men or women's voices that repeat the same phrase over and over again for HOURS. This always happens when she is lying down in bed, not sitting up or walking. Only one Doctor said "it was her mind recalling things in her memory", the others "had no idea". My Mother has an excellent memory and recall of most anything, no signs of Dementia (to me or anyone else), and doesnt take Demerol regularly, only when needed. Maybe a few times a week, due to constipation. We have pretty much given up on Doctors, they are just pill pushers who get a kickback. And I do understand your reluctance to talk about it. Glad you did, it gave me a chance to open up about it too. Maybe we will get other information from here. Good luck to you.
