Nothing too much out of the ordinary. I would suggest no heavy lifting. You can ask his doc how much weight he can safely lift but until then, probably nothing heavier than a gallon of milk. Lifting can strain the weakened muscles that are causing the hernia. If he has an unusual increase in pain or if he has swelling in his testicles or penis he should seek emergency care (sometimes blood vessels can get "strangulated" which causes blood to pool or back up into the testicles and this would require surgery right away). Hernias are very common. Many people can have small ones and not even be aware of them. It sounds like his is a bit larger but he should be fine after surgery. If you have questions, you should really talk to his doctor and the surgeon who is going to perform the surgery. They should really answer all your questions. Dont be afraid to ask-they sometimes forget that people may have certain questions because it is something they see a lot so it is common every day to them so be sure that you get all your questions answered. Dont hesitate to call the doctors office if you need to (if you are not seeing the doctor or surgeon soon)

How do you properly push an inguinal hernia back into place so I can temporarily wear a hernia belt?
