Metronidazole has been assigned to pregnancy category B by the FDA.
Animal reproduction studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women.
It can be given if the benefits to the mother outweigh the risks to the baby.
Your healthcare provider will weigh the benefits and potential risks in your situation before making a recommendation.
