have taken meds that may have triggered this. have sludge in gallbladder with sand per gi doc. gi dr has hunch it is an infection in the gallbladder. risky to do gallbladder surgery based on age and condition.
They can do common bile duct surgery via an ERCP as I have had this done . Had the same effects as you are describing, & it saved my life! Took them 9 years to figure it out that it was the common bile duct spasming not the gallbladder , which was removed & made my condition worse. & years later a really good gastroenterololgiest that wasn't afraid of anyone did an ERCP & discovered the problem was with the common bile duct not opening so bile was backing up in the liver which in turn was causing all the high liver enzyme counts. It has to be snipped open to drain onto the small intestine. Once that is done, things will settle back quickly. I know how disturbing this is & frustrating. Please suggest to your Fathers doctor that the bilibary spasms could be due to the nipple being closed & bile not being released into the small intestine. Good luck & let us kow how it goes...
