I've been a migraineur for 20+ years. It has only been the last 2 years that my neurologist and I have been fighting back. So I've tried topamax, imitrex, maltrex, steroid shots, and nortriptyline which was great because it took my pain away and helped with my depression. Only problems were the swollen bladder and pelvis, and seizures. It sucked so bad. I'm now up for Inderal. But I broke down in the office when we talked about the side effects. I'm afraid the fatigue, weakness, insomnia, and worsening depression will push me too far. Is it worth trying?
Most of the medications you tried were to be taken after a migraine has occured, called an abortive. You need to be on preventative medication on a daily basis. You need to find a neurologist that specialized in migraines. They have much more experience with treatment options. Inderal is in the classification of drugs called beta blockers. It is a preventative medication. Do you have other medical problems? If not, I would try it. You have no idea if you will have the side effects or not. Try it, if it helps to decrease the severity or number of migraines, it is worth trying. Just give it some time to work. Good luck!!!
