Due to my high tolerance for Ativan and sleeping pills I am afraid if I ever need major surgery, they won't be able to knock me out?
I also have built up a high tolerance level to Ativan over the last 30 years, so I share your anxieties about having surgery. I also take tablets for BP, depression, etc etc, but I'm told and have done a lot of research that there has been such an improvement in anaesthesia that there should be no problems. Obviously, the most important thing to do prior to any surgical intervention is to discuss in full what would be the best anaethesia for you, this should happen as a matter of course prior to any op when your anaesthetist should visit you in your hospital bed and together you decide on what is best. Be honest about the medication (and dosages) you are taking!! Good luck.
