I have had a headache for 2 weeks. The MRI test did not show any positive results. Aspirin helps relieve the pain. The doctor wrote me a prescription for Imitrex and promethazine in case I experience nausea. Is the Imitrex supposed to actually get rid of my migraines or is just temporary relief like Aspirin? If that is the case, I am just going to take Aspirin
Imitrex is designed to cure a migraine. I've taken it for years for my migraines. I prefer the nasal spray as opposed to the pills or shots. It must seems to work better, and more quickly, for me. Imitrex works best on true migraines. If you're experiencing a severe tension headache, or severe sinus headache, it won't be as effective. I would definitely give it a try. I doubt it would hurt and it might be the cure you're looking for!
There is no medication that will stop all of your migraines. Imitrex is only a temporary fix which is a lot stronger than aspirin. You should know that taking any pain reliever including aspirin for more than 3 days in a week can lead to rebound migraines which can continue. It's too bad that your doctor didn't tell you that.
Hotcakes; Like the answers you have had but them not finding anything is Great when you have Migraines etc it is best to rule out any medical problems many doctors don't do this so be happy it came out clear. Now if you have had a headache for 2 weeks than aspirin is really not doing the job either And I have found that like was already said Imitrex is best for true Migraines and you start it at the first sign of it coming on. And many times it can prevent it from becoming a full-blown migraine. They really know very little of what to do but treat the Migraine so you don't miss days in a dark room. But for some people like me I have been taking the generic Inderal for years every day for prevention of migraines and I can't remember the last one I had when I used to get at least 3 a month. If you have these regular ask your doctor about taking a beta blocker like Inderal what I have found is I needed 80mg tr Timed Release ONE DAILY.
and don't even have to worry about the Migraine's Just some food for thought it does not work for everybody but it would be worth a try.
