I have been getting some suboxen from my friend, and using 4mg or 2mg (somewhat consistently) once a day for about 6 months. I will be getting some dental procedures/surgery done. I do not want to tell my dentist because I am getting them illegally, and I don't want him to NOT give me any pain killers after the operation. Should I tell my Dr, and what will he do? What are some other concerns I need to worry about, due to the fact that I am using suboxen and going in for dental surgery?
Well my concern is that suboxone can have terrible sideeffects when mixed with other medications. I don't know what medication they will be using during the surgery and would worry that it could be something possibly harmful mixed with the subs in your system.
My doctor tells me suboxone in its self is a pain medication also. I'm sure probably isn't the best to help with pain. Another thing to think about is, are you on suboxone because of an opiate dependence? If so, would taking the pain meds after surgery be worth it?
On the other hand, I totally understand that you are worried about how the doctor would react if you tell him your taking suboxone. Maybe you can just tell him your taking it and how much and he won't ask anymore questions? I'm not saying to lie but maybe, just maybe he won't ask who prescribed it.
Just want you to be safe. Let me know how it turned out.
I hate to tell you this but opiates are usually blocked by suboxone and the meds they use to put you to sleep or sedate you for surgery could actually cause you to stop breathing. I am pretty sure the dentist will NOT know you are getting them illegally, you do need to tell him you are on it.
