As I previously posted I was considering going inpatient for my depression. Depending on availabity, I will check into a facility tomorrow. Any advice, how long is the average stay? Im nervous and anxious but also hopeful. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanx
Hi there jt, Much depends on your insurance, are you paying cash, etc. Also it will depend on what your issues are and how long it will take to deal with them. If new medications are involved, it may take at least a few weeks to see how you adjust to them. In many cases, a good month or so is the average stay for depression. It's different for a detox facility where you're in and out in 48-72 hours. You'll be involved in group sessions, activities, and a weekly meeting with your psychiatrist if you started on any new meds. You;ll also be assigned an individual counselor who you could go to any time of the day or night. The best advice I could give is during the group sessions, participate and listen closely to the other inpatients. You will learn valuable techniques and tools on how to deal with issues after release from the facility. It's a good thing to seek this type of help. It should help you a great deal!
Best wishes. Please keep us posted on how it goes.
