... methedone can u start taking suboxone? Will i have 2 wean myself down 2 almost nothing ? I'm on 80mgs of methedone a day. I'm hoping that i can get myself down 2 30mgs a day. Then just stop for 48hrs. That's the length of time that it takes 2 start going into withdrawel from methedone, r that's when i really start feeling bad. Hope somebody has a answer for me because i'm seriously thinking about doing this. After the 48hrs i hope i would b able 2 take a dose of suboxone. Dont want 2 go thru any withdrawels as i'm a diebetic and it throws my sugar levels all over the place
Switching from methadone to suboxone is completely different than switching from short acting opiates to suboxone. It is recommended that you get down to 30 mgs of methadone, then wait 72 hours and start on subutex first, subutex does not have the second blocker drug in it, and there is less chance of precipitated withdrawal with the 72 hour wait and the subutex. Methadone is a long acting medication and so is suboxone sand subutex. If you take subutex or suboxone while the methadone is still on the receptor sites, the meds will fight each other and prevent either from sitting on the receptor site, and a horrible case of withdrawal called precipitation will occur. If you are diabetic, I urge you to seek a really good subutex doctor to help you.
