... tragedy in my life, im also bipolar and take 15mg of abilify. I have a high tolerance for drugs that are addictive so im not addicted to the klonopin, diazepam, or the sleep one temazepam. I was on 4mg of klonopin a day you know the big 2mg pills i only took them twice a day. And I was on 150 mg of librium a day, I quit those cold turky, I only had a few nights of poor sleep, and i chewed on some valarian root for that. I guess my question is, is it ok to be prescribed diazepam and klonopin at the same time? sincerely, northern michigan
I don't quite understand why your Dr. has you on 3 meds that are classified as benzodiazepines! They can cause mild depression, and also can become addictive. You mention that you have a very high tolerance for drugs, which CAN be an indicator for potential addictive tendencies. I understand you have severe anxiety, but perhaps it could be effectively managed with one of the benzos., along with some other therapeutic methods, not related to medication (behavior mod, bio-feedback, etc). The benefits may not be as immediate as a pill, but can be worked into a regular routine to help with the anxiety. I wouldn't ever quit anything cold turkey, particularly the benzos., as you can have serious problems with w/drawls, like seizures, etc.
Also, with bipolar (you don't say whether you are 1 or 2), I'd be sure to have that properly managed first, while at the same time, trying some behavioral techniques for the anxiety with maybe just one of the anxiety meds. I learned the hard way by "self-medicating" with my bipolar 1, ADHD and compulsivity/anxiety. Some meds are like putting a match to gasoline with the bipolar DO. I would ask the Dr. first about the reasoning for the 3 meds in addition to Abilify? And, why he/she hasn't suggested other 'med free' anxiety reducing methods? Just a suggestion from my personal experience, education, and research. I have been a practicing Psychotherapist for 20 yrs, specializing in addiction and dual disorders, so I've worked with many patients, as well as having my own battles, and am also in recovery for addiction, 23 yrs... So, good luck! I wish you the best. Don't give up with your good questions and caution! You will receive many helpful suggestions from the people on this site, as well.
Maybe you can talk to your doctor about temezepam for sleep and lorazepam for anxiety. The diazepam seems pretty strong for anxiety but that's just my opinion. Maybe talk to your doctor if you are not happy with combo and you can research what meds would actually help. So your not taking so many and as for diazepam and the other I would check interactions on this site. Best of luck!
