I went to my first NA meeting last Wednesday night. I'm 22 days clean right now but I am wondering about different formats. The format of the meeting that I went to was discussion/participation and it was OK for a first experience. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what to expect if I attend a candlelight format meeting?
hi mat, welcome to the site.way to go with gettin sober.was that your first meeting?a candle light meeting? i got no idea.and i been going to n/a a/a meetings for years. the only thing that matters is you have the "desire"to stay clean. my name is pete or subzero58.anyway i hope your not in pain so you can stay strong from taking pills. i was in that same predicament 1 year ago.i have been suboxone and it has helped me deal with my knees. you come to the right place there are some great and helpful people here... pete
Congratulations on day 22! It's a relief to hear you didn't abuse them for pain. Then you're talking a whole different ball game. My daughter is (like subzero) just over her 1 year clean mark. She swears by N/A. With her group, they change up stuff all the time. Different places, formats, speakers, etc. It's the basic steps on staying clean that is the main message. She is on her 3rd sponsor. I think they switch them up so you don't become too close to the sponsor and they can give objective views. This may be just her group but all I know is she is a different person now. Stick with it and come here for support too. I bet you were a bit nervous at your first meeting? Don't worry, after a few, you'll be participating more and feeling better about the whole thing. Come back here and keep us posted. You may find many people with different points of view and combine all the info and customize a plan that works best for you and your family.
My best wishes and hang in there!
