Does it really help??? I suffer from social anxiety to the point that I avoid family,it has gotten worse over the last two years. It started five years ago,I used to a people person then I had a panic attack in the store.I had never felt like that before and know I hate being in public to the point that I don't go any where.
This is how much it may help.
I have a friend named Dave (not the Dave on here) that is the lead singer in a band. He plays at the local bar downtown as well as several other venues. He is very green and a very holistic health kinda person, but his social anxiety is helped by Lexipro. He goes from hiding from his own family to performing in front of strangers. He even played his guitar on the street by himself last Fourth of July during a festival on the beach.
I know taking man-made drugs is a hard thing to swallow (literally), but it might be what you need. First step, try counceling. Once the root of the problem is found, you'll be able to find out how to relieve it. Have trust in your psychologist. Even your animosity towards taking perscription medications can be answered by he or she.
Chastesin gave you some really sound advice. I'd just like to add, what have you got to lose? I will point out that when you start taking the Zoloft, it takes 1-2 weeks before you start noticing any changes. Also, be aware that it causes dry mouth so you'll want to keep gum and/or hard candy on hand to help with that. Hope this helps. Good luck and God bless. Keep us posted on how it's going; you'll find lots of support and caring people here!
i took zoloft with klonopin and it helped me immensely. i was able to go to amusement parks(as well as other places outside of my home, lol) and rode my first roller coaster at the age of 32. it utimately pooped out on me and i had to switch. this happens to me a lot. the pooping out of a med and then having to switch.
anyway, good luck with the zoloft. it's a great med for a lot of people.
