Hey Steffy, I have a friend who is now in her mid 60's who shot up heroin until she was 7 months pregnant and although the baby actually is grown and has kids herself now and is fine, the guilt that my friend has really bothers her. You need to try and get yourself healthy. I think when we force opiates, it dulls all our senses and urges and that in turn keeps the signals from being sent from our brains to our bodies. You would never believe my friend was ever on heroin now, she is kinda elegant. You sound like you are trying to get to a place where you can quit and believe me, you should quit before you get pregnant. Please go to a counselor who treat drug addiction and they will help you find a doctor who can help get your body healthy. Any woman who wants a baby must be healthy herself and take pre natal vitamins BEFORE she gets pregnant.
You probably can't get pregnant now because you probably aren't ovulating, but, please use a back up method just in case, until you can get off the heroin. This is not a judgemental thing, it is a health think. I am going to say some big prayers for you. Stay in Touch. We're here for you.
You don't say that you are a recovering heroin user, but that you are a heroin user. If you are still using, and are considering conceiving, I'd say that you should consider a good rehabilitation center first, then a gynecologist/obstetrician from there.
It is possible to conceive without a mentrual period. The purpose of the period is to flush the unfertilized egg and excess uterine materials out with the blood flow. If the body has had a severe trauma, is malnourished or otherwise compromised, it is not unusual for the menstrual cycle to become disrupted and menstruation will stop. (Amenorreah) Very small athletes, such as gymnasts or long distance runners often experience this, but they can still conceive.
I am reaching here, but I worry that you are still using heroin and want to conceive a baby. I hope that you can get appropriate supports before you make this decision.
