I was given a big load of painkillers like methadone, Lyrica, Gabapentin, Kadian, Morphine 30, and so forth. Actually I take only Hydrocodone 5-500 ASAP, Lortab and Oxycodone 5 mg. I try to be carefull with this medications and take them on of each every 4 hrs. with 1 or 2 hrs. time lapse between them. Please advise me because I don't want to get intoxicated or poisoned. Thanks for your advise.
The best advice that in my opinion that I can give you is this. Rotate the opiates so you don`t grow as tolerant to them as quickly as you would say if you just took hydrocodone everyday.
Hydrocodone is weaker then oxycodone so you may find you need to dose a little higher with the hydrocodone. You can take the oxycodone say for a month then switch over to hydrocodone for a month. You will probably have to experiment to find out what works best for you.
The hydrocodone and the Lortabs are the same so you have 2 different pain killers there.
I would also take the Lyrica or the Gabapentin (Gabapentin (brand name Neurontin) is a GABA analogue. It was originally developed for the treatment of epilepsy, and currently, gabapentin is widely used to relieve pain, especially neuropathic pain). daily as prescribed as they are not opiates.
Kadian is a sustained release morphine and the morphine 30 could be a quick release that you would use for break thru pain occasionally with the kadian.
If lets say you get tolerant to the above meds after awhile then you can switch to the methadone which is a very powerful and long lasting pain killer. It is virtually impossible to grow tolerant to methadone. You should use methadone only as a last resort because once you are on a stable and steady dose the other drugs will not work as the methadone molecule will block any and all other opiates.
So start out at the bottom of the ladder so to speak with the hydrocodone and oxycodone then when they aren`t effective switch to the Kadian and morphine 30. Again, only once they become ineffective then switch to the methadone... Good luck to you... Dave
