I am manic depressive and know a bit about depression, it is not a good thing at all, I was also a drug addict for 20 years I am 42 now , and have been clean for 9 years.
Let us focus first on your depression, why won´t your parents let you see a therapist? . The earliest your depression is treated the better off you will be in life. You need to talk to them again and explain what you are feeling, until they finally understand that you need help, you must write down your symtomps, what you feel, how you deal with different types of situations on a daily basis. Sit down with them until they realize you are depressed and need to be on some sort of anti depressant and also psychological treatment until you overcome this obstacle in your life.
With regards to pot, well I would like to congratulate you for wanting to quit, THC is psychologycally highly addictive, it is hard to stop smoking, but it can be done, it requires will power, sacrifice and changing completely your lifestyle, meaning not hanging around people which smoke, making new friends, which at your age it is not very diffcult, choose a sport or two.
I do not know how long you have been smoking nor how much, I stopped cold turkey from 1 day to the next, and I do not recommend that at all.
There is one way your parents will listen to you but it requires more courage than ever, you come clean with your parents and tell them I smoke pot and want to quit, I am depressed and need your help, you are crying out for help, and there is nothing wrong with that, it takes a MAN to do so.
If you decide to take this option do not be afraid, and your parents, must see you strong and determined to overcome these obstacles.
I hope I have been of help to you. I truly wish everything works out for you in every aspect of your life, I mean it.
All the best.
Very good response Maso - Krab, Maso really sounds like he knows what he's talking about. If you go the parent route and it doesn't work (give your folks a chance - they might really surprise you) is there another adult around that would listen to you? An uncle or aunt, a neighbor, a teacher? You know that if things really get bad you can always call 1-800-SUICIDE - 1-800-784-2433. They can talk to you and help you out - never act on any really bad feelings. You are too young - there is always hope.
Just came across this, you have two problems and each need to be addressed, first off are you on epilepsy medications? I have found some information relating to marijuana and epilepsy it would seem that marijuana attaches to the same receptors in your brain as does the epilepsy medications or some of them. My opinion is that if you are on medication the marijuana could be interacting causing the depression. Topimax is a epilepsy drug which also is used to control "cravings". Depression is not to be taken lightly maybe just go to your regular doctor and describe your depression, marijuana usage, and epilepsy, he will direct you as to where to go!
