I am not on Wellbutrin an aid in quitting smoking, it is for depression. I am just looking forward to see how long it took each individual to quit after starting it.
Hello Less than human. My son was on wellbutrin and it took him about 6 months. He was a pack a day smoker. I believe his dose was 150mg. I was on it, wellbutrin for depression, was a smoker at the time, my dose was 300mg, and it did nothing to curb my addiction and cravings. So, we're all different. what works for one, doesn't do so for another. Best wishes to you,
My Doctor prescribed Wellbutrin to help me quit smoking. She started me on 75mg and told me to gradually increase it to 150mg. After about 3 weeks I noticed I was smoking less. A couple of weeks later I became very depressed,
then suicidal. I was really scared because I didn't know why I was feeling so bad.
Then I realized it had to be the Wellbutrin. I called my Doctor immediately, and she told me to go off of it gradually and never take it again. I have told this to a couple of other Doctors since then, and one didn't even know that depression was a side effect of Wellbutrin, and the other acted as if he didn't believe me. But it's true, because once I was off the Wellbutrin for a few weeks, I was back to my normal self. If you are taking Wellbutrin, please be careful and if you notice any signs of depression or any mood changes, call your Doctor right away.
I wish you the best of luck. Let us know how you are making out.
The first thing I did after I was diagnosed with emphysema( a great shock to me by the way) was grab the chantix and run it took 6 weeks on chantix not a drug that is easy to take but I was inspired sooooooo.that was in July that I stopped and one day at a time I never will again.I rarely crave one which is funny because as you've probably noticed most of us are addicts,I am anyway.it worked... but not being a dr I still would read all the side effects that this drug can induce.and at the same time it helped me quit so,good luck!c.
I've been taking Wellbutrin (generic ... Bupropion SR) to quit smoking. First week I started using nicotine lozenges and smoked about four real cigarettes a day. Beginning of second week, I decided to eliminate cigarettes and nicotine.
Won't say it's easy - effort is still required - this medication just equips you with what you need to quit.
I started on Zyban (Wellbutrin) in 1999, following having been a 1-2 pack a day smoker for more than 30 years. I took (I don't recall the dosage level) the pill for 10 days prior to quitting the cigarettes. I developed a severe allergic reaction, breaking out in a rash from top of my head down to my toes. I immediately stopped use of the pills, and best of all I have never smoked again and have never had the desire.
I actually had good results while taking Chantix, (or so I thought). I quit smoking and I felt good. No anxiety, no depression, no bad side effects from tobacco withdrawal, while I was taking it. But, a month or so later, it threw me into an anxiety-laden depression. It was ugly. I felt terrible. I recommend Wellbutrin instead to help someone to quit smoking. Chantix threw me into a tailspin, and it took months to feel normal again. Be very wary of it. Listen to your body if you are having these side effects that you mention here. It could get worse.
I took zyban (buproprium/Wellbutrin) 300 xl years ago and I stopped smoking for a year or so and then started again (stress). I have now been taking Wellbutrin for 10 years at night to help me sleep. I guess it also helps with general mood because with my life being what it is I would have just gone to bed. I finally took Chantix and stopped in 5 weeks. I would have taken it long ago but the warnings they talk about scared me to death. I had absolutely no side effects. If I had run out of cigarettes sooner I would have quit sooner. When it came time to buy I decided that's it, no more. So easy! I have smoked for more than 50 years. I don't know how my family stood it. I would like a cigarette sometimes when I'm really stressed out but it passes very quickly. I am so happy now to be rid of them. Whole lot cheaper, too!
