I was diagnosed with hepatitis C anout 11 years ago. I have been seeing a gastroenterologist every year And have not been placed on treatment yet. I have had two liver biopsies. I have slightly more liver damage with the second biopsy which was 11 years after the first. My viral load is under 2 million. My doctor said that I could wait to see if this new treatment is approved in the next several years. I want to know if it is okay for me to take ibuprofen for pain?

I ended up calling my doctor's (gastro) office, and the doctor said that I could use the ibuprofen, but to try and take as low a dose as possible. As long as I don't use it frequently, it is okay. I'm posting this in the event someone else has the same question.

I decided to call my gastroenterologist about my question since I didn't get much response here. He told me that I can take the prescribed ibuprofen for my pain; however, he suggested that I break the 800 mg tablets in half and see if 400 mg wouldn't work just as well. He also said not to take them on a daily basis, but only as needed.
not sure on this, I can't take it because I also have Type2 diabetes to go with Hep C and cirrhosis and can't take anything with Tylenol in it either I have had doctors offer it until I tell them about my Diabetes, then they tell me not to take it because it could do more damage to my kidneys. hope this helps I start going to a liver specialist next month .
I also have hep c and am cautious about what I take. I have read that if used periodically at the 200-400mg dosage, it doesn't pose a problem for the liver. However, my mother had chronic kidney disease so I am skeptical because research shows use of ibuprofen can cause kidney problems. I see a specialist March 7, 2014 so will ask some questions and hopefully be able to answer some of my questions and yours, a well.
ibuprofen is one of the most destructive meds for hep c. I would ask again as most drs would say no way with your fibro issues or cirrhosis. Issue. Ask dr again. Why are you not on harvoni? Something isnt right
Hi I found out I had hep c about 6 yrs ago and had had it about 12 - 15 years so my biopsy came back between 2 & 3 with 4 being full blown cirrhosis but I went through the year-long interferon treatment which I handled well (worked the whole time had some hair-loss) but I came out cured! Now my liver tests are normal and I take hydrocodone 10/325 daily for back pain the Dr says the less Tylenol the better but recommend Aleve (NSAIDs) for headaches - my husband who has it too thought ibuprofen was the worse one but I think it's acetaminophen
