Iam not sex active is it ok to take otro cyclen birth pill when I only have my period to make it lighter then the next 3 weeks I don't take any then when I have my period agin I take from the same pill pack(the next Line of pill) or should I use a new box?
Sweetie, the pill doesnt work this way. You have to take one pill every day each month for it to lighten your periods. The pill works in a few different ways to prevent pregnancy. First and formost, it prevents ovulation-no egg to be fertilized, no baby. The reason you have a period is that every month your body builds a nice, plushy, bloody lining inside the uterus so in the event an egg is fertilized, it can implant into this nice bloody lining and continue to grow, develop a placenta and eventually the baby is born. If an egg is not fertilized, then the lining is not needed, and is shed each month as your menstrual period. The pill reduces the formation of this lining so the uterus is a less hospitable place for a fertilized egg and this is a back up mechanism in case an egg happens to be released and fertilized, that perhaps it wont implant and will just pass out of the body without a pregnancy occuring. This effect can be beneficial to women who have heavy periods and want to lighten their periods but you have to take it regularly, all month, every month, for this change to occur. If you were to just take a week at a time, your body would be so screwed up it wouldnt know what to do! Your periods could become irratic and cause you all kinds of grief! You either need to decide to take the pill or to not take it. You cant just take it part time for it to work right. Many women find after they have been on the pill for a few months, they have little to no period. Some lucky women just spot a bit and thaty is all. Not every woman is that lucky but most find their periods are lighter and dont last as many days as they do without the pill.
