Is 75mg XR Effexor a high dose to start out on for hot flashes?
Well, there is a lower dose of 37.5 mg that you could start out on. I would ask your doctor about it. They'll either explain to you why they chose the dose or let you try the lower one... so it won't hurt to ask.
From my experience though, be careful with this drug. Make sure you take it EXACTLY as prescribed at the same time every day. I take it for depression and have had some bad experiences with it when I get off schedule or miss a dose, so try your hardest not to.
If you do find out from your doctor, I'm very interested to know the reasons for that dose and the reasons for choosing that medication for hot flashes. If you don't mind sharing... I'd really appreciate it :)
Doctors that don't know any better and believe me theres alot of them think an antidepressant is the cure for menopause when what you need is Bio identical hormones. I've been down this road and what you need to do is your own research. Menopause happens when your hormones change which causes depression and a variety of other changes in the body and mind. I became depressed and irritable... I felt absolutly horrible... unable to cope with life when I was menopausal. I went from doctor to doctor... I was also perscribed antidepressants but that didn't help anything because thats no what I needed.Doctors DO NOT know how to prescibe Bio identical hormones.Contact a compounding pharmacy and they will call your doctor and tell him what you need.DO NOT take premerin... it is made from pregnant horse urine and is not identical in any way to the human bodies hormones. A compounding pharmacy will compound hormones which are identical to the human bodies hormones. I feel so much better now and I have been on bio identicals for 3 years now... I was a wreck before them.I am much happier now and feel like I can cope with life.
If you have any questions please ask me and I will help you as much as I can.
