help the pain & put me to sleep. took 10 mg last night & felt nothing. was still in pain & it didnt even make me sleepy so once again up ALL night in pain wide awake. any suggestions on what i should do? (better medications? taking an extra pill?) im so frustrated i want to cry! i just want to sleep & also be pain free!!
Flexeril is a prescription muscle relaxant. It is meant to be used temporarily to treat muscle spasms due to injury or other muscle problems. It is not prescribed to put you to sleep.
It is not clear as to how exactly Flexeril works to relieve muscle spasms. However, it is known that it mostly works in the brain stem, not in the spinal cord and not directly on the muscles. The medication only works to relieve muscle spasms caused by problems in the muscles; it does not help with muscle spasms caused by problems in the brain or spinal cord.
Guess you would have to seek medical advice from the doc/pharmacist who prescribed the med to perhaps change the medication which could give you relief from pain & put you to sleep.
Take care, be well, pain free!
Hi there. Just read your question and wanted to add my 2 cents I guess. For what it's worth my Pain Management Dr prescribed Flexirel 10mg for muscle spasms I am having in my shoulders caused by a wreck. Said it should help relieve the pain as well as help me sleep. I agree that it didn't really do either. Next time Dr prescribed Zanaflex, or Tizanidine (generic). It is in a class of medications called skeletal muscle relaxants. It works by slowing action in the brain and nervous system to allow the muscles to relax. This does seem more effective for me; but I am also taking Ambien CR for sleep. This might be more than you want to take so maybe ask your Dr about one or the other and work from there.
You may want to decide what your ultimate goal is. Sleep is mandatory for your body to be able to repair itself but if you need relief from the spasms during the day too, that's a different issue. Maybe massage or physical therapy can help with the healing as well. Either way, talk to your Dr & don't be afraid to tell them how you feel.
Hope this helps and Good luck & be well!
both my parents are on flexirel my mother has fibromyalgia and my father has had 8 knee operations and blood clots in his lungs and legs and once in his chest my mother says flexirel makes her feel fine my father says the opposite and they gave him ambien and vicodin and he became horribly addicted to both so if you want to get on a different med please ask about the addictive properities of the med :)
