Hi, to sweet Lemon, no offense taken, I started taking them of course after some operation, that was ok, it was later that i saw others taking the recreationaly and I didn't know you could do that, that's when i found take one ok, but take two wow cheap high and it went from there, I do have back and knee problems now and got my dr to give me prescriptions, this has been going on for almost a year now i take 5/500 tabs up to 10 a day, the other day i actually lost count and got scared and tried to throw up. I have tried to quit a couple of times but well you may know what that feels like, it's hell. I have heard now of suboxone and there is the Thomas Recipe that I am considering, then again there is just cold turkey, how long to feel normal again, reading up on it is helping me understand the symptoms and what the withdrawl is all about, how did i get here? I just want my life back, I will live with the back pain it's not THAT bad, being addicted to vicodin that has taken over my every waking thought is way worse. Thanks you for your reply, it also helps being here with others who know what I am going through.

ok I took the last of my vicodin Saturday, Sunday was not that bad I even managed to enjoy the day with my son and grand sons and was surprised I did not wake in a cold sweat, yesterday I felt crummy but still no sweats and chills and tylenol is helping with the aches and melatonin with the sleep. today I am irriatable, but still feeling better than i thought I would, i am so hoping that a week from now i may start feeling like my old self again.
My partner seems to know what I am doing and is supportive that helps, I am drinking lot's of water, I don't want to leave the house and I don't want to do anything I do not have much energy, I have to take my son to the orthodontist tomorrow so I am hoping I'll be able to cope with that.and i have a family function to go to on Saturday, please let me be much better by than. I have done this a couple of times before and usually it's about a week than I start feeling a little better and able to eat more.
I don't ever want to take vicodin again, so I will not refill the prescription and I will stay away from all those I know have them until I feel I am past the temptation. Well I need some more rest right now and some more water.
Thanks for being there everyone. Michelle
Could you please add some more info to your question?
How long were you taking vicodin, how much, and in what way? Were you swallowing them, snorting them? (I mean no offense when I ask these questions, you'd be surprised how many people snort them!!)
Were you taking them recreationally or for pain?
I cannot tell you how long it will take for you to feel normal again, tis different for each person. But a slow taper seems to be a good plan.
Best wishes to you, and I hope you add more info to your Q,
I believe your taper plan is too fast. Since you do not list how many or the dosage or how long you have taken them it's hard to tell you correctly, but the usual taper plan would be 1/2 a pill down every five to seven days then another 1/2 & so on until you are down to 1/2 a day. At that point I would still go every other day for a few days & then stop. The other way of 1 pill day will put you right back where you are right now. You have to give you body & mind time to accept the dosage you are giving it...
