I have been on effexor xr for 10 yrs. quit working. Depressed when mother passed. had a hysterectimy and was lost. i also had anxiety. i have a problem with multi tasking and i need to know if adderall would be better for me. Pristiq does nothing for my anxiety. i tried adderall xr and loved it
Pristiq is an SSNRI, while Adderall XR is a stimulant medication. If Adderall XR seems to be more helpful, then I'd ask your doctor to switch, as stimulants can alleviate depression. However, I'd recommend using the lowest dose possible, as Adderall and all stimulants can increase anxiety (though not in everyone).
Have you tried any other SSRIs or SNRIs? You could also ask for another medication in that class. But it sounds like you have some ADHD symptoms... you can also ask to be tested for adult ADHD.
I also like Adderall and have been on it for 10+ years. As long as you take it as directed you'll be fine. Also your anxiety might increase in which your doctor might want you to up on an antidepressant before considering a Benzodiazepine. I personally take Adderall and Xanax 2mg TID and I'm going to increase it when I see my doctor next to 2mg QID. First take the lowest possible dose as you can. The reason I'm on such as high does of Xanax is cause my body metabolize medications differently than others do which basically requires me to take a higher does. Xanax can become addictive if used incorrectly. It gets a bad reputation do to all the addicts and all the people that think narcotics are addictive. Statistically only 1 out of 20,000 people will show addictive behaviors if they actually have chronic back pain. The same goes for people with anxiety. Adderall will make you more outgoing examples being; talking more, Interested in things you weren't interested in. Extreme focus on what you're doing. Remember to take the Adderall ONLY as Prescribed or else you can easily become addicted to it. It's a schedule II drug. Be save and happy Holidays! I hope this helped.
