Depends on what is plugging it.azithromycin is an antibiotic to fight an infection and is usually prescribed for 10-14 days. It's the infection that causes swelling of soft tissues and makes a fluid type substance that then plugs up the normally open areas in your ear.Using a decongestant by mouth actually helps by decreasing the swelling and sometimes can work in hours but may have to be retaken if the ear gets plugged again.use an ice bag on that side of your head for no more than 10-20 minutes 2-3 times a day for a couple of days only. drink hot liquids and don't lie down with that ear down on the pillow. there is not enough info to figure out how serious your infection is but generally speaking by 1-3 days you should be feeling unplugged. Good lucknGod bless
