This medicine helps me and I dont get high off of it. But it is classified as an opiate. I am having conflicting thoughts about it because I want to be clean. Am I still clean while on subutex?
I have been a member of the "anonymous" groups for many years and this may vary from meeting to meeting but if you are taking this as medicine and I think you are - and you are not getting high and you "want it" (sobriety) then I can't imagine a group not being there for you. The old timers just have to scoot over sometimes and let the new medicines come in and give them a chance. Back in the day there wasn't even NA - the addicts just came to AA. I know that Bill and Dr. Bob would be amazed at how far things have come and how bad the drug addiction got and almost surpassed the drinkers. I still believe that alcohol will kill more people but all of it is bad. I am glad the groups have come together to help each other because it wasn't always like that.
There is not a better feeling in the world than going to a Convention where there are thousands of people all for the same goal and it is empowering. The one thing you have to really believe and I am not kidding you - is that if you ever convince yourself that you can take any other thing you are in a relapse. My first relapse came after 12 years of sobriety and I just swallowed some listerine and by the end of that week I had consumed several bottles. I was so horrified I nearly went crazy but went to a meeting that night and thank God I got out of it and was fine for another several years until the dreaded injury occurred and then there were the opiates and then after that I thought I was losing my mind because I tried to wean off the norco too fast and ended up doing everything - yes even listerine. I am ok again but it never ceases to amaze me how we addicts will try and talk ourselves into anything if we are in relapse. You have to do what you know is right - remember - we are only as sick as our secrets - so true! If you aren't getting high - that is the whole point and it appears the soboxone is the miracle for many people. My son takes it and functions better than he ever did. He is just a baby practically but a very hard core opiate (and everything) addict. This works great for him and I know he would not be on it if he wanted to get high. I can't speak for that side of it but as far as the meetings go - you let me know if anyone gives you crap about that and I will certainly be surprised. Good Luck and Keep it Simple. Don't sweat the small stuff and you will be fine. htwooh
As far as I know you can go to meetings while you are high as long as you are not obnoxious and disturbing other people. They are usually just happy that you are even considering help. I know you can sit in on meetings for sure, but I wouldn't think they would consider it being clean as far as those sober chips go. But they should still welcome you and be there for you to talk to as long as you are respectful.
