had a car accident inMay 2011 Doctors put me on diluadid while inhospital and sent me home with a broken collar bone and broken leg with 40 mgs of roxicotin 4 x daily ... It has been 3 months I am down to maybe 60 mgs roxi daily ... I have afew pils left but plenty of suboxone ... Should I kick the roxi cold or go back on the suboxone I am really tired of this shit
It's up to you. I'd taper off the Oxycodone a bit (60mg is a lot to go cold turkey from, but there's no danger in switching to an equivalent dose of Suboxone). I'd stick with Suboxone - it's a good pain reliever by itself, and with past addiction problems, probably the best opiate to stick with.
I am no Sub expert, yet I do know that you must be in WD to go back on your Suboxone. Please, don't go into precipitated withdrawal !! I hear tis horrible indeed.
Google the COWS sheet, make sure you are in WD before you start your subs!! You must score a 26 or higher (I believe) on the COWS sheet, please oh please, be honest when taking the test!!!
I agree with the other poster (I apologize, I've forgotten your name!!) that a taper first would be smart indeed.
Hi there roxi,
Just wanted to add my two cents to the two good answers you have already received. You can do it either way, but you also need to be honest with yourself. Are you ready to go ct? Do you have all of the tools in place to stay sober once you go this route? Will you still be in pain once you stop the pills? Just some things to think about.
The subs (as you already know, but I am just reiterating) will control any urges you may have to want to take a pill again. This in itself is a good thing. It will also help with the pain, AND give you time to readjust your receptors to living without pills in the future. Having said that, and you also know this too, you will eventually need to get off of the subs as well.
SO... the question really is: am I ready to be off of everything in every aspect? (physical/mental/emotional) or do I need a little more time?
I want to say as the previous posters did, you really should not jump at 60 mg, as this is a pretty good dose, but if you have plenty of medicine you can start a decent taper. If you do choose to go the subs route, you will need to be in wd's. Sweet it correct, you want to score at least a 24, preferably a 26 on the COWS. And, DO be honest with yourself. You will need to make sure that you truly have the symptoms and don't let the anxiety fool you into believing your score is higher. (I say this from experience.)
We are here for you which ever route you decide to go! Please keep me/us updated on your decision and we will be here to encourage you!
Best of luck,
Hi. Just joined this forum. It's been very helpful. When I needed to get off roxi, I did it with suboxone. Like everyone has said, be in the first day of withdrawal before you start. Also, it's SO important to taper down on suboxone very quickly. Getting off suboxone is almost as bad as withdrawing from opiates. Good luck!
