I need a heart and lung transplant, and my doctors are wanting to use velcade for help in desensitizing my antibodies. Has any one else had this used in this way? We have to get medicare to approve the drug for this use. Thanks
Sorry, could only find this link to one patient review.
I am a 2 time liver transplant recipient and have new onset Plasma B Cell Hepatitis. My doctors decided that to save my life, they needed to do 4 doses of the Velcade. I received all four during February beginninng 2/8/11 and 72 hours apart there afterwards. I am happy to report that my liver numbers appear to be trending downward. A liver biopsy will be done to confirm improvement shortly, but we're hoping for the best. I am also on Medicare and have been told that this drug is so expensive they can't even mix the drug to give until I am in the hospital ready for treatment. Medicare did approve it though. There ARE side effects that I wish someone had warned me about: extreme exhaustion, stomach pain, nausea, severe bone pain, severe cramping and diarrhea, and most recently moderate hair loss. I Praise God for the improvements, and pray that these side effects will minimize and fade quickly.
