Demerol is an opiate pain reliever. Although it was a very popular pain reliever for decades, it has fallen out of favor in recent years due to its ability to produce a unique group of serious side effects. As a result, its use is usually limited to very specific situations in which other medications are not appropriate.
Demerol is a narcotic and is a "controlled substance" in the United States.
Demerol is a narcotic, opiate pain reliever. It binds to opioid receptors throughout the body and produces numerous different effects, most notably pain relief and sedation.
Demerol has a significant potential for both psychological and physical dependence and abuse. In fact, it is classified as a controlled substance, meaning there are special rules and regulations for prescribing and obtaining the medication.
However, please do talk to the doc/pharmacist who prescribed the med. Take care!
Since you asked what it feels like, that's what I will answer and not break down the details, lol. Just like most opiates Demerol can give you an euphoric feeling but some people actually get cranky while taking Demerol, that can be a side effect. Make sure you follow the prescription correctly because Demerol is addictive and has a high abuse rate. Good luck and hopefully you get better soon, assuming surgery or out patient to receive Demerol, most doctors don't give it out for everyday pain any more like they do lortab etc...
