Lithium does not have addictive potential. To my knowledge it is seldom found to be abused. Those taking lithium for unipolar or bipolar depression may feel worse when not taking it, but that may simply be an indication that it's working. If you feel worse taking it, it may be over or under dosed. In that case you must consult the prescribing practitioner.
Lithium is generally considered safe & effective. However, there are side effects fairly well
known that your practitioner must explain to you, the most common, as far as I know are related to the kidney.
