My doctor gave me Amitriptyline. I sleep well at night and feel drowsy the whole day. The feeling of numbness and pain in the arm has reduced but not gone completely. My doctor gave me 50 mg a day for 10 days. I have seen an improvement in my condition. Can I continue with the drug maybe with a lesser dosage like 25mg a day?
Yes, Amitriptyline is a very old and well known drug. It is used for sleep and nerve pain. It was originally used as a anti-depressant but the sedation came into play so doctors started using it as a sleep agent. I don't know how doctors started using it for nerve pain. My mom used to take it daily (150mgs twice a day) for migranes and it seemed to work...
The sedation you have is a drug hangover and is usually a sign of to high a dose. You can break them in half and take 25mgs at nite... Good luck... Dave
P.S. What is the reason for the pain and numbness???
