Recently the Dr. had to elevate it from 30 mgs to 50 mgs because of recurrence. Had anyone had this experience. Did it work again. How long did it take to work.
Grace, you say you had 'much luck' with Paxil for 10 years and that now you are experiencing are recurrence of symptoms. The same thing happened to me, after 10 years, and it was NOT depression returning. It was what is known as "poop out". From what I can gather, it means that while Paxil continues to boost serotonin, the brain responds by slowing down its dopamine activity. Low dopamine, in turn, brings about symptoms such as insomnia, low mood, and loss of enjoyment in activities previously enjoyed - symptoms of depression!!
If this is what has happened to you, you will find that there is no difference between the 30mg and 50mg doses. Give it a couple of weeks to be sure but it may actually be better to DROP the dose rather than increase it.
