I would see zig zags in my vision, my left arm goes numb, then I black out. Then the numbness would go to my right arm, left and right leg and then to my tongue and lips. I would lay in bed for about 3 to 4 hrs and finally come through. I would feel as though life was sucked out of me. It took aprox. 3 days to finally come around. When I stood up or moved my head it would throb;but I wouldnt have a constant pain like a headache. Is that a migraine or a mini stroke?? Drs would say that I was to young to have migraines and blow me off. This has been going on my whole life;especially when I am stressed out. I havent had one for about 5 months. knock on wood! What do you think or what are your symptoms??
Some of the symptoms do sound like a migraine. The headache is only one part of migraine syndrome. A neurologist should be able to help you. My sisters and I usually have an "Aura" with differing types of visual disturbances. I have tasted blood or metal and my sense of smell is really tuned up high when I am about to have a migraine. I have had numbness and tingling. Many of the foods I ate and all liquor, particularly wine or wine coolers will trigger one in me. MSG in food and the nitrites in lunch meat, potted meat, chinese food, the cheese in Mexican food, banans and caffiene all can trigger them as well as many things I just couldn't remember. Get a referral to a neurologist and let them hear your symptoms, and I think you will get some answers. Hope things go well for you. Oh, also birth control pills cause them in me, but, I toughed it out on that one, but, mine were not as severe as what you are describing. Weakness and fatigue are common after migraines.
I've had them since I was five. Im now seventeen. I start to get light sensitivity, pain in my eyes, see dark shapes, crave sugar, yawn a lot, muscle weakness and black out. I'm half aware of wants going on but cant really respond. I feel numb and weak. I can take anywhere between 5 hours to 3 days to cover. I agree with the 'life was sucked out of me' part. Some doctors have just told me children don't get migraines which is why I've never had proper treatment, but most drugs you can't have till your 18 anyway - which may explain why they want to get rid of us - they cant do much. I get them now at 17. The pain is the worst pain I ever have and it definitely sounds like a migraine to me. Unless I don't get migraines either- but I doubt it... Even if you do get diagnosed with it there seems to be no good treatment. Let me know if you find one that works. The visual stuff seems to vary between people. My mum sees an 'aura'.
