I have numbness and tingling in my arms and legs all the time, muscle spasms in my shoulders, neck, lower legs & feet, can't sleep, & have tried about every medicine they can think of. Baclofen was given to me this week and seems to be working so far, but all the reports say about "side effects". What am I looking for?
Common side effects of Baclofen, probably due to its effect on the brain include: confusion, dizziness or lightheadedness, drowsiness, nausea, and muscle weakness.

Depending upon your sensitivity to muscle relaxants, it may take only a day or two to notice "sleepwalking" or "sleepeating" type patterns. Baclophen, however, is the most mild muscle relaxant (so I've been told) on the market. I personally get headaches from it due to the intraspinatus muscles relaxing around the implants. If you have petimal seizures you might also notice a slowness or forgetfullness of words, but this is also caused from pain meds.
It is NOT EASY living with this type of implant. Did you have the muscle spasms before the operation? If not, then this is probably due to the new way your upper extremities register stress and pain. Also, this time of year, there are allergens, herbicides, pesticides that may be causing the cramping. Are your OTHER symptoms which required you to have the surgery alleviated? How many levels of your spine were replaced? How much follow up care did you have? Did you have any infection during the healing process? These are all questions that may be overwhelming just now, but keep them in mind when taking ANY prescriptions for chronicicity. Most of them are MADE FOR ACUTE SYMPTOM RELIEF. Good Luck...
