I am & have been on opiate pain relievers for over 11 years now. I take what is considered a very large dose of methadone, 170 mgs 1 x daily, Percocet 10/325 3 x daily & MS Contin 30 mgs every 12 hrs. I don't want to be a slave to these meds for the rest of my life. I need surgery on my thigh to fix nerves, remove scar tissue & try to allow me to bend my leg. I recently had surgery scheduled & was on my way to some semblance of a normal life when a urine test came back falsely positive for PCP. I also take 10 mgs diazepam 3 x daily, which I've read has a high incidence of false positives on urine tests for PCP. Right now, I am at my wits end. My primary doctor is not trying to help resolve this issue & I came very close to just ending my misery yesterday. I want to eventually get off all pain meds. Since I am on a high dose of methadone, will I suffer withdrawal symptoms if I quit taking the Percocet & MS Contin? That doctors office is telling me that I am being cut off of my pain meds just because of that test. I don't want to be in pain and I don't want the added pain of withdrawal. Any suggestions? I would be so greatful for any input. I just can't take it anymore.
I hear your desperation. While the methadone you are taking may make it easier to get off the percocet and MS contin, I don't recommend just stopping cold turkey. Is the doctor stopping the methadone too? I have been through methadone withdrawl and would not wish it on anybody.
Can you find one of your doctors that will listen to you? Which doctor prescribes the diazepam? Could that doctor advocate for you?
There has got to be a solution to this. Let's be patient and see what we can work out.
Your welcome to contact me at anytime,
Oh my gosh, I just commented on your answer to "fentanyl swallower." I'm wondering if any of the meds used for treating MRSA can cause the false positive as well. There's a few anti B's I think might. Is there any way you can get a hair follicle test? That will show exactly every med you've been on the past 3 months.I wouldn't recommend going cold turkey off any of these meds, especially the morphine and methadone. I think the methadone MIGHT keep some of the wd's away if you taper down and off the morphine and OxyContin. Can you find a doc to prescribe suboxone for a few months? It may at least buy you some time so you can get a plan going. If you need surgery, won't the doctor make an exception if you offer a hair follicle test? That just doesn't seem fair.
These doctors know false positives happen quite often, especially with PCP. Who the heck even takes PCP? Why would anyone even take it being on the kind of meds you are? That doesn't make sense, doc's should give you the benefit of the doubt. Ask them "Does this make ANY sense to you? Look at the meds I'm on! You really think I would risk not being able to have this surgery and lose my pain control meds for PCP?" Make it sound like they're the ones who took PCP. That's just plain ridiculous. I wish there was something I could tell you that would help. I would try to reason with the doc's, you never know. Try to hang in there. See if they'll accept a test and do the surgery. Hope the MRSA is under control? I really feel for you :-( Take care and I'll be saying a prayer for you.
Hello my name is Caringsonbj (Billy) but is what I use on this site, Laurie is right there must be a solution to this problem, sometimes things look darkest before the light shows in, but I heard you say something that really gets me, don't ever ever think about just ending it, You are far too important to think about anything like that, I have dealt with Chronic pain partly from Polio and its lasting effects and someties it seems like this is just too hard to think about especially when you have been through the type of thing you've been through, I have heard of people on the Valium and having issues with a falso positive test for PCP, I can't tell you exactly what the answers are right now but not continuing and ride this out is just not an option,
I believe that an answer will come there are many good people on here and we want to be able to be a friend that cares and will do whatever we can, continue to keep Laurie and I posted, we want to help if there is anyway possible
