From my understanding and it is only because my son is on it. You have to be in withdrawal and I think the best thing you can do is get a Dr. because every drug is different - my son was on heavy duty shit and he was taking the suboxone the next day. He says it has saved him and he does not want to get high. He has been clean for 2 yrs and knows that is a better feeling but some of us are very serious opiate addicts. Heroin was the worst time of his life and he did everything and could not even functionon heroin and was almost a zombie and almost went to jail. You are so smart to try to get off it. Good luck. I can ask him more if your want.
google the COWS ( clinical opiate withdrawal scale) and look over the questions. If you have only been using heroin for 3 months, you may be able to quickly get over the withdrawals using another method called the Thomas recipe. You can google the thomas recipe opiate withdrawal and get the over the counter meds and supplements listed. They help with specific withdrawal symptoms. Your use is actually quite short in terms of addiction and you would probably be over it in a week. The cows sheet is one of the tools they use to determine when someone can take suboxone and you must honestly hit a score of 26 and be in moderate withdrawal from opiate to get suboxone to work. You do realize that you will have to take suboxone for a while and taper down to .25 milligrams and then skip a few days between doses to help reboot your brain neurotransmitters and receptors.
Suboxone has worse withdrawal than Heroin, according to some and it will take longer to get off suboxone. If you have already been addicted to other meds and have a problem often becoming addicted to other meds, then you should consider suboxone and addiction counseling. The counseling will be as great a help in beating addiction as the suboxone will. You could also go to an AA meeting and listen for people to identify as addicts and talk to some of them. They will be happy to help you and talk to you and it is annonymous very cheap, they only ask a $1 donation per meeting. They also have NA, but those meetings are not as easy to find. Join the heroin group here and the suboxone group and read through old posts before you make your decision. It should take around 24 to 36 hours for you to be in moderate withdrawal and hit a 26 on the cows scale. You also need to know how to properly take the suboxone first, as you don't swallow it, it is sublingual.
After only 3 months you should not be abusing suboxone. You may find more trouble then you need. After only 3 months you should ween down with some morphine or cold turkey...
you really need to be in withdrawl for a couple days before you take it,if you want more info go to www.turntohelp.com
