This medicine was precribed for my nephew who had a minor ankle surgery. He told me it was a painkiller and he could sleep well after taking it. I start taking it when I had sprain my neck because of sleeping on the wrong side and now I am taking it even when I dont have pain now. I take 2tablets a day just to relax and sleep. I know any medicine which is not precribed by a doctor for you is not good but I feel good after taking it. I could do my daily routine work after taking this medicine. Is it going to effect my health in long run taking it? Please help me. I just dont know why I want to take this medicine just to relax myself(lately I have been going through stress) Ultracet makes me feel good. What should I do and how can I get better without this medication?I think I need some kind of moral support but I cant find anywhere.
If you are taking it for any other reason than what it was prescribed for, I would call that abuse of this medication. Please do a slow taper to get off of Ultracet, that way you will not suffer horrible withdrawal. Someone else can give you a taper plan.
If you go cold turkey off it, seizures are a possibility, so doing a taper is a good idea.
Best wishes to you,
That's how it started for me. You are taking these pills for too long. I had a back injury in 2000 - on hydrocodone for 7 years. Took me that long to realize that I had developed a physical dependency. Ultracet is an opioid and will be habit forming if you take it too long or more then you should. Taking it for no reason or for non pain regulation is the first sign of a habit - at least it was for me with hydro - which I know now.
I decided to stop when I realized that the pills were running my life after 7 years on permanent medication. I took the last pill on a Friday Morning and flushed the rest down the toilet. In my case, the withdraws were so bad that I was unable to make it through - the first time. I talked to my doctor about it who told me to taper off. Could not do it. Pills were gone in no time. I then made a plan to taper off substituting 8 10/375 hydros per day with 8 Tylenol 3 - then 8 Tylanol 1 then 6 - 4 - 2 - 0. Took me 3 weeks and I still felt moderate withdraw symptoms - but was able to work and got through. It is hard to say if you will feel strong or any withdraw symptoms since it depends on who you are and how many you take and for how long - but believe me - no more pain meds for me. They put me through hell.
If you are taking the Ultracet daily over the past year and taking when you don't need it, then you are abusing this medication. Your body is addicted to it. If you would like to get off this medicine, as Sweetlemon said, you need to taper not quit cold turkey. If you post how much and how often you are taking the Ultracet, I would be happy to help you with a taper plan.
