... he tols me for the first 7 days take half of the paxil and half of the celexa together then starting 8th day take the whole celexa. does this sound right? has anyone ever taking these 2 together?
Your doctor is approaching the change quite responsibly, knowing that just as you introduce a new medication gradually, so also should you cut back or phase out the old med. To quit paxil cold turkey would be very problematic. Keep in mind that after taking paxil for 6 years, it's going to be in your system any way. I have been on both medications, most currently celexa (I take all and a half in the morning, so 30mg) and it is working well for me. I know it's frustrating when meds stop working for you. It's not an exact science, so going about finding the best medication(s) for you is to some extent hit or miss. Good luck!
Hello Texasmom! I used to take Paxil and it also worked for me awhile. after I noticed it wasn't really helping anymore I just took it in my own hands and slowly took myself off of it. Big Mistake! U did right by doing as your dr. said. I am now on celexa 40. I started a year ago at 20 and it has worked wonders on me. after about 4 or 5 months my doc moved me up to 40. So far so good. I have heard that no antidepressant works forever because your body eventually gets immuned to it so u may have to switch every few years. Different ones work different for different people, so if celexa does not work the same for u call your doctor and he will try u on different things until yall find the right one for you. The celexa might take 4 wks to take affect, so be patient. I hope it does well for you as it has for me, because to me this is the best one i hve found for myself. Good luck:-) your friend Anna
