I recently started taking oxycodone 30mg 1-2 x a day. My body seems to have a strong physical addiction to these meds. How can I ween myself off of them? I think I would rather be in pain than an addict. Can the medicine called suboxone help me, or do you have other suggestions.
Suboxone will take you out of withdrawal and stop cravings, helps somewhat with pain but it is more for cravings and withdrawal. You will have to stop all opiates and go into withdrawal for about 24 hours before you can start the suboxone and suboxone does block opiates once it is in your system, so, make sure you are serious about getting off opiates and need NO surgeries, even dental.. Subs blocks opiates for 3 to 5 days after your last dose. There is a suboxone.com webpage with a doctor locator service, a doctor needs a special license to write a prescription for it, this locator can tell you whom in your area is licensed to write a prescription. There is usually an induction fee and monthly office visits and it is RARE for a doctor to file insurance for either of these. Write down all the doctor's names and call all of them, these fees vary. You should be able to find one you can afford. Suboxone will take effect in as little as 20 to 45 minutes after the first dose, and will continue to relieve symptoms for 24 hours. It can take up to 2 hours for the dose to reach full strength, but you will feel major relief of symptoms in 20 to 45 minutes. Most doctors also require drug testing and counseling for addiction along with this treatment.
