Can't stay focused. So, is this because the drug is not right for me, i just would like to feel better. I have heard that adderal works better than concerta is this true, and how can i get my doctor to prescribe adderal for my adhd. I don't think my doctor like adderal, but it might be right for me. I am a 34 year old woman.
Concerta is considered a mild central nervous system stimulant, as Adderall is considered a moderate central nervous system stimulant. Concerta is very similar to Ritalin, and these two drugs are commonly the first course of action Dr's take to treat ADHD. Although Concerta has a high addiction potential, the potential for addiction and abuse is even higher with Adderall, witch is why your Dr. might be hesitant to prescribe it. The usual dose for Concerta is 10-30 mg. a day, but can be as high as 60 mg. a day. Perhaps your Dr. needs to up the dosage? If after trying that and you do not find that this med. is being helpful, (because this is likely your Dr's next course of action) talk with your Dr. about switching meds, and if you find that your Dr. is still being hesitant i would suggest finding a new Dr. in your area that can help you. Good luck!!
Concerta doesn't help with the energy part. My son is on Concerta for ADHD and it is working but he was off the wall. I am ADD, always tired, chronic fatigue syndrome, etc. So I am on Adderal and it does help me... Honestly it sounds to me like you have ADD, not ADHD. Same thing just missing the H for Hyperactivity... Make sure your Dr is aware of this.. My son's Dr. was actually just telling me that concerta may be taken out of the same family as adderal and ritolin, etc. If it gets approved it will no longer be considered a controled substance. Vitamin B is also a help.
